Policy Details
01§
Plagiarism Screening Process
Every manuscript submitted to Applied Econometrics and International Development undergoes similarity screening immediately upon receipt and prior to the commencement of peer review. Dedicated plagiarism detection software is used to generate a detailed similarity report. If similarities are identified at any stage of the editorial process — including during review, copyediting, or proof — authors are formally notified and required to address all flagged content before the manuscript can proceed.
02§
Author Responsibility
The responsibility for ensuring the originality of a submitted manuscript rests entirely with the authors. By submitting to this journal, authors warrant that the work is entirely their own, has not been previously published in any form, and is not under concurrent consideration by any other journal or publication outlet. All sources — including data repositories, working papers, policy reports, and prior literature — must be properly cited. Both deliberate and unintentional plagiarism are treated as serious ethical violations.
03§
Unintentional Plagiarism
The editorial office recognises that unintentional plagiarism may arise from inadequate paraphrasing, incomplete citation practice, or unfamiliarity with referencing conventions in development economics publishing. However, regardless of intent, authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy and originality of their submitted work. Authors are strongly encouraged to conduct their own similarity checks prior to submission and to adhere rigorously to the citation and referencing standards outlined in the Author's Guidelines.
04§
Post-Publication Plagiarism
Should plagiarism be identified in an article following publication, the editorial office will initiate a formal investigation in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. If the findings confirm a breach of integrity, the article will be retracted and marked accordingly in all indexing databases. The relevant institutional affiliations of the authors involved will be notified, and further submissions from the implicated authors may be subject to a period of ineligibility.
05§
Reporting Suspected Plagiarism
Readers, reviewers, or researchers who suspect plagiarism in any article submitted to or published by Applied Econometrics and International Development are encouraged to report their concerns to the editorial office at editorial@aeidpublications.com. All reports are treated with strict confidentiality and investigated thoroughly. Where a concern is substantiated, corrective action will be taken promptly and transparently in accordance with established publication ethics standards.
